JAIPUR: Violent clash followed by filing of counter-FIRs were lodged at Shivdaspura police station after a violent encounter took place between CJP delegation and local residents in relation to an inspection drive undertaken by them in Jaipur district. CJP co-convener Ashutosh Ranka along with 50 to 60 CJP volunteers has been booked under SC/ST Act, while the cross-FIR filed by the CJP claims that their delegation was brutally attacked by villagers through pelting of stones and assault.
Violent encounter took place after CJP delegation arrived in Rampura Kanwarpura village for inspection of the school as part of their ‘School Thik Karo’ campaign. As per the information given, the delegation had reached Rampura Kanwarpura village for inspecting the primary school which had been set up in a cattle shed due to unsuitable building.
Violent Encounter and Counter Claims
According to the complaint filed by a local resident Bhagwan Sahay Dhanka, CJP delegation arrived in Rampura Kanwarpura village where they are said to have insulted local residents and castigated them in casteist terms. It is also alleged that when locals tried to make them understand the situation, they physically assaulted them and insulted women of the village. Complaint led police to file FIR against CJP workers under various sections of Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) along with three stringent sections of Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act.
However, CJP’s counter FIR gives another account of the whole incident, which says that a gang armed with bricks, sticks, and stone-filled tubes attacked CJP delegation in retaliation to the invitation of locals.
According to the CJP complaint, several volunteers were severely injured in the encounter and an advocate got his arm fractured in it. CJP says that the attack against their members and vehicles has been planned by local political operatives.
Extended Consequences
The duel occurs against the backdrop of rising political debates on educational infrastructure in Rajasthan and fresh directives by the government regarding the presence of outsiders in government school premises.
Extended consequences of this incident spread to Jodhpur during the weekends when eleven persons were taken into custody by the police after causing disturbance in a seminar held by Ranka at the Gandhi Shanti Pratishthan. It was disclosed by senior police officials that investigations of both FIRs registered in Jaipur are being carried out to establish the sequence of incidents and individuals involved.
