Islamabad, August 21: Former prime minister of Pakistan, Imran Khan, was taken back to Adiala Jail after spending several hours in a private hospital in Islamabad based on the directions of the Supreme Court of the country.
Currently, Khan who is 73 years old was transferred from Adiala Jail in Rawalpindi to Shifa International Hospital in Islamabad for medical examination according to the directions of the court.
Reasons for Imran Khan Hospitalization
The problem of health condition of the former prime minister has become the cause of concerns among his relatives, lawyers, and supporters ever since he was imprisoned. It should be mentioned that his lawyers have already stated that Khan suffers from deterioration of vision in his right eye.
The directions of the Supreme Court of Pakistan have been provided as a result of numerous appeals of lawyers for providing Khan with specialized medical treatment and for choosing the doctor.
It should be noted that the government of Pakistan initially refused to provide such a possibility for Khan explaining that the prisoners usually receive the treatment in government hospitals.
However, in spite of all appeals, the order of the Supreme Court was fulfilled and the former prime minister was taken to Shifa International Hospital in Islamabad.
Doctors Declare Imran Khan Medically Fit to Be Kept in Custody
According to reports, Khan was pronounced medically fit to stay in custody as a result of the examination in the hospital, according to Pakistani sources. He was taken back to Adiala Jail with the help of a security escort.
As has been stated, during his examination, the former prime minister had to undergo examination by an ophthalmologist, cardiologist, and general physician. It is worth noting that the sister of the former prime minister was also present during the examination.
It means that Khan has spent only several hours in the hospital, in spite of the fact that it was stated earlier in the directives of the Supreme Court.
Imran Khan Imprisoned Since 2023
It should be mentioned that Imran Khan has been detained since August 2023 due to a number of cases in which he has been found guilty. However, both he and his party believe that the cases are politically motivated, while the government of Pakistan denies such statements.
The ex-player of cricket who became the country’s prime minister in the period from 2018 to 2022 still remains an important and very controversial political personality in Pakistan.
Khan’s arrest has constantly led to the rise of tensions in the country due to the protests of PTI’s supporters demanding his liberation and better medical treatment.
Supreme Court Interventions
This week the intervention of the Supreme Court is the crucial stage in the conflict about the health condition of the former PM since the court ordered to transfer him to the Shifa International Hospital and to form a medical committee to evaluate the health condition of the politician.
Nonetheless, even though the government requested to review the decision claiming that the permission for Khan to use a private hospital might cause problems to other prisoners, the former PM was already moved to the hospital.
Nevertheless, at the current moment, the former PM was returned to Adiala Jail after the medical examinations.
The above-mentioned event will likely become the reason to observe the issues related to the health of the politician, his trials and the overall political conflict between PTI supporters and the government of Pakistan.
